“We want to know where we stand”

Compliance benchmarking audit

An independent, evidence-based audit that benchmarks your practice against the Standards for RTOs 2025 and your own business systems, so you can confirm what is working, improve what isn’t, and assure yourself your systems do what they should.

What the audit covers

A compliance benchmarking audit is sometimes called an internal audit or a compliance health check. We audit your RTO against its own compliance management practices, the VET Quality Framework and the Standards. We sample qualifications, units and student records and review them from enrolment through training, assessment and certification.

  • The Standards, including the Outcome Standards and Compliance Requirements
  • AQF requirements for qualifications, records of results and statements of attainment
  • Training and assessment strategies, materials and mapping for sampled units
  • Trainer and assessor credentials and currency
  • Student records and the evidence behind each result

What you receive

  • A benchmarking audit report identifying each risk of non-compliance as low, medium or high, with the evidence sighted and the rationale for every finding
  • Practical improvement and rectification strategies where needed
  • Mapping and validation reports for the units reviewed, and a report for each student file sampled
  • A briefing session with your team to walk through the findings

Business process benchmarking

We also benchmark end-to-end business processes, such as eligibility, enrolment, training plans, delivery, reporting and record keeping, against your own policies and procedures. Findings cover good practice as well as risk.

How we work

Every engagement starts with an agreed scope and a fixed budget. You get findings and advice you can act on, and a debrief with your team.

Questions

How long does a benchmarking audit take?

Most engagements involve two to five days of work across on-site and off-site activity, depending on how many qualifications, units and student records are sampled. We agree the scope and budget with you before we start.

Can it be done remotely?

Yes. Desk reviews and virtual reviews are available, and many engagements combine off-site evidence review with a shorter on-site visit.

Can you follow up after we’ve made changes?

Yes. A follow-up desk review checks your improvement actions and evidence, and we update the report to show your current position.

How often should we have a benchmarking audit?

Many providers have one each year, and whenever they make significant changes such as new qualifications, delivery modes or staff. We’ll suggest a cycle that suits your size and risk.
